10 million EPAL Euro pallets QR in circulation
The European Pallet Association e.V. (EPAL) has reached another milestone in the digitalisation of the open EPAL pallet pool: Since their market launch in 2024, 10 million EPAL Euro pallets QR have been produced. The continuously rising production figures show that more and more manufacturers and users are taking advantage of clearly identifiable and digitally connected EPAL Euro pallets.
With the introduction of the EPAL Euro pallet QR, EPAL has combined the proven quality, reliability and exchangeability of the EPAL Euro pallet with the possibilities offered by digital logistics. Reaching the milestone of 10 million EPAL Euro pallets QR produced demonstrates how rapidly and consistently this development is progressing.
The EPAL Euro pallet QR is fully compatible with the open EPAL pallet pool and can be exchanged without restriction for conventional EPAL Euro pallets. Each pallet has an individual serial number and can be uniquely identified. This enables track-and-trace applications and provides greater transparency regarding pallet movements and goods flows.
A simple scan of the QR code also provides access to important information about the pallet, such as details of the manufacturer and the age of the pallet. The durable QR code can replace conventional paper or plastic labels and enables digital, paperless pallet management. As the QR code is based on an open standard, it can be scanned using existing scanning technology and easily integrated into existing IT systems and digital processes.
The use of the EPAL Euro pallet QR and EPAL declarations of conformity also makes it easy to provide evidence of PPWR compliance. Declarations of conformity have been required since the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) entered into force on 12 August 2026. The corresponding evidence provided by EPAL can be passed on efficiently and directly to customers and other parties in the supply chain.
Michael Brandt, Head of Logistics & Innovation:
“10 million EPAL Euro pallets QR represent an important step towards the digital future of the open EPAL pallet pool. As the number of digitally identifiable EPAL Euro pallets increases, valuable data on pallet circulation, reuse and repairs is generated. This provides greater transparency throughout the life cycle of reusable EPAL Euro pallets and supports efficient circular logistics. Our goal for the future is clear: EPAL will continue to increase the production and availability of the EPAL Euro pallet QR and continuously develop the digital infrastructure.”
